Carbon-14?

Again off topic, but whatever. I might not be able to explain this correctly because I'm not exactly coherent, but Carbon-14 dating is basically a process that can be used to determine how old a fossil, or anything organic that is dead. When something dies the Carbon-12 it contains breaks down (not sure the technical term) and becomes Carbon-14, at a 1/2 ratio every 5,700 years. 5,700 years is the half-life of Carbon-12, or how long it takes for half of the remaining amount to become Carbon-14.
It's only accurate until about 50,000 years old because then the ratio of carbon-12 to carbon-14 becomes too small to accurately measure. Other elements have half lives that are much longer that can be used to determine the age of objects billions of years old.

That's my biology lesson for the day, skip over it as you will and lose respect for me as you please.
